Could this microfactory be a model for your own town’s recycling problems?

You know that very skeptical voice in the back of your head that wonders if your plastic recycling actually goes where you hope it goes? My first article as an official Contributing Writer for Core 77 was written just for that skeptical voice of yours.

Can the mountains of recycling collected each day from New York City streets be used right here in town to make new products? Could we create demand for recycled materials by setting up factories next to MRFs so that materials could be reclaimed and remanufactured on-site? Could this even provide jobs and bolster the local economy? The article asks all these questions and examines the circular microfactory model created by Circular Economy Manufacturing that popped up this past summer on Governors Island. Could be a model for your own town?
